Day of the Region Blog
Region to have its day!
Dumfries and Galloway LEADER Programme are pleased to announce its support of the 'Day of the Region' project for the next 2-years. This will allow the concept which was delivered for the first time in the UK in rural communities across Dumfries and Galloway in October 2011, to be developed and strengthened across the region.
Part of a bigger transnational European community movement, the project is being delivered in a similar format in other countries across Europe including the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Austria, Finland and Ireland. The Steering Group have confirmed that the celebration will again take place the first weekend in October, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012.
Eight rural communities across Dumfries and Galloway are working with co-ordinators to develop their programme of activities to take part in this unique celebration of rural community life, which say over 150 events and activities delivered as part of last year's inaugural celebration.
Initial plans for the 2012 Day of the Region include dog training, promotion of community groups, arts and crafts have a go sessions, treasure hunts, cooking demonstrations, theatre productions, walks, talks, film shows, barbecue, pipe bands, sharing of local skills, fishing and community forest walks!
